On January 16th, 2027, Les Arts Florissants' Conductor Paul Agnew joins with Daniel Taylor to lead the Consort in Rejoice in the Lamb, an offering of A New Year's Carol. Transcending liturgical propriety, this program features works setting texts ranging from the ecstatic to the apocalyptic, the sublime to the silence of mourning, the universal to the intensely personal.
Composed in 1943, Rejoice in the Lamb is a brilliant and deeply spiritual cantata. Setting the eccentric and devastating text of 18th-century poet Christopher Smart, Britten masterfully blends mystical, child-like innocence with profound emotional intensity. The Consort programs this piece in a broader thematic program of carols promising a dramatic, staggering performance of complex, shifting moods. Taylor has made it the end piece of an ancient and modern Nativity programme (plainchant in glorious contrast to Medieval and Renaissance carols and works by Howells, Leighton, and Pärt).

Trinity-St. Paul’s Centre is located on the south side of Bloor Street West between Robert Street and Major Street, just west of Spadina Avenue. There is no parking lot at Trinity-St. Paul’s, but there is street parking, as well as a Green P lot on the west side of Spadina Ave just north of Bloor St W. If taking the subway, exit at Spadina Station.
The venue is wheelchair-accessible via a ramp on Bloor Street West. Accessible seating is available on the ground floor. Please note that the balcony seating is not accessible as there is no elevator in the building. A barrier-free, gender-neutral washroom, which includes a motorized door, is available for use on the ground floor.
